Marion Local Extends Nation’s Longest Winning Streak with Four Straight Shutouts in High School Football

Marion Local High School from Maria Stein, Ohio, has tied the state record for consecutive wins at 57. However, securing win No. 58 won’t be easy as they face undefeated Coldwater in Friday night’s season finale.

The Flyers haven’t tasted defeat since November 6, 2020, when they lost 24-17 to New Bremen in their last game of the season. Since then, they have completed three perfect 16-0 seasons, winning three consecutive state championships.

Last week, Marion Local matched the state record of 57 consecutive victories, previously set by St. John’s (Delphos), by defeating Minster 21-0. This season, the Flyers have been dominant, averaging 43 points per game and allowing just 22 points total on defense, including an impressive streak of four consecutive shutouts.

Their next challenge is Coldwater, a formidable team averaging 40 points per game and allowing only 10, with a 9-0 record. Marion Local and Coldwater are two of Ohio’s most successful small-town football programs, if not the nation. Marion Local holds a state-record 14 championships, while Coldwater has seven. The two teams have met 71 times, with Coldwater leading the series 35-32, along with four ties.

Marion Local has won the last four meetings between the teams, with Coldwater’s most recent victory coming in 2018, when they triumphed 26-20 in double overtime.

With 57 straight wins, Marion Local ranks among the top teams on the national all-time list, according to the MaxPreps National High School Football Record Book. They also hold the longest active winning streak in the nation, currently eight wins ahead of Garden City (N.Y.).
