Columbus Tops Preseason MaxPreps Top 25 High School Basketball Rankings

Columbus High School (Miami, Fla.) opens the season ranked No. 1 in the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25 high school basketball rankings. Led by star twins Cameron and Cayden Boozer, the Explorers have claimed three consecutive Class 7A state titles and ended last season with a 29-5 record, ranked No. 2.

Cameron, the reigning MaxPreps National Junior of the Year, and Cayden have both committed to Duke. They’re joined by standout junior Jaxon Richardson and a roster enriched by new talent, including top 10 junior Caleb Gaskins, 6’10” center Eric Dibami, 6’7″ forward Keeper Jackson, and 6’3″ guard Marcellous Jackson.

Other teams vying for the national title include Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.), Roosevelt (Eastvale, Calif.), and Oak Ridge (Orlando, Fla.), all aiming to challenge Columbus for the top spot.

  • Columbus begins the season ranked No. 1 for the second consecutive year, powered by Duke commit Cameron Boozer and a strong supporting cast. Their challenging schedule includes matchups with top-ranked teams such as Link Academy (MO), Montverde Academy (FL), Prolific Prep (CA), and Gonzaga (D.C.).

2. Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) 2023-24 Record: 28-6, No. 23

  • After last season’s run to the WCAC finals, Gonzaga returns four starters, including North Carolina commit Derek Dixon and fellow four-star recruits Christian Gurdak (Virginia Tech) and Nykolas Lewis (Xavier).

3. Roosevelt (Eastvale, Calif.) 2023-24 Record: 31-4, No. 4

  • As favorites for the California Open Division championship, Roosevelt returns top players such as five-star senior Brayden Burries and New Mexico commit Isaac Williamson.

4. Oak Ridge (Orlando, Fla.) 2023-24 Record: 27-4, No. 7

  • Oak Ridge aims to win their first state title since 2018, led by top seniors Jamier Jones (Providence) and Jalen Reece (LSU).

5. St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) 2023-24 Record: 28-7, No. 25

  • The defending Division I state champions add five-star junior Christian Collins and return Brandon McCoy, last season’s National Sophomore of the Year.

6. Perry (Gilbert, Ariz.) 2023-24 Record: 24-6, No. 32

  • Returning three starters, Perry is led by MaxPreps Junior All-America Koa Peat and heads into a tough schedule including a matchup with Columbus.

7. Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) 2023-24 Record: 30-2, No. 5

  • Grayson returns Georgia commit Jacob Wilkins and bolsters its roster with standout juniors, aiming to defend their Class 7A title.

8. Brennan (San Antonio, Texas) 2023-24 Record: 31-5, No. 50

  • Brennan, seeking their first state title, is led by five-star senior Kingston Flemings and a full roster of returning starters.

9. Paul VI (Chantilly, Va.) 2023-24 Record: 35-3, No. 1

  • After winning the national title, Paul VI returns with key players including Jordan Smith and new additions like sophomore Derek Daniels.

10. Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, Calif.) 2023-24 Record: 33-3, No. 3

  • Two-time defending champions, led by Duke commit Nikolas Khamenia, aim for a third consecutive title.
