Centennial (Corona, Calif.) made the biggest leap in this week’s MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings, jumping 11 spots to No. 12 after their 25-20 victory over Mission Viejo (Calif.) in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Mission Viejo dropped seven places to No. 16. Junior running back Malachi Roby was a standout, rushing for 206 yards and two touchdowns. Five-star USC commit Husan Longstreet threw for 216 yards and a touchdown, also rushing for 52 yards and another score. The Huskies, now on a nine-game win streak, will face top-ranked Mater Dei (Santa Ana) on Friday.
Mater Dei improved to 10-0 with a 33-13 win over Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth), extending their winning streak against Centennial to six games, including a 42-25 victory earlier in the regular season. Longstreet was sidelined for that matchup due to a foot injury.
In other Southern Section playoff action, No. 7 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) overcame a 23-10 third-quarter deficit to defeat Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) 31-29, advancing to the semifinals. They will host No. 13 Orange Lutheran (Orange), who triumphed 42-20 over JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano) on Friday.
In Georgia’s AAAAAA state playoffs, No. 5 Carrollton, led by five-star quarterback Julian Lewis, dominated Dacula 46-7 in the opening round. Lewis completed 23 of 26 passes for 293 yards and four touchdowns. The Trojans will face Valdosta on Friday.
Malik Washington guided No. 10 Archbishop Spalding (Severn, Md.) to their third consecutive MIAA-A title, with a 31-7 win over McDonogh (Owings Mills, Md.). The Cavaliers capped their season 12-0, outscoring opponents 487-34.
No. 21 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) secured a spot in the 6A state championship game after defeating Lehi 35-34 in overtime. Bronson Evans connected with Kai Meza for a 14-yard touchdown on fourth down with 19 seconds left to force the overtime. Corner Canyon will face Lone Peak (Highland), who won the regular-season game 28-21, on Thursday at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
In Maryland, No. 24 DeMatha (Hyattsville) clinched a spot in the WCAC championship with a dominant 42-6 victory over St. John’s (Washington, D.C.). The Stags will play Our Lady of Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) on Sunday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, following their 35-7 win in the regular season.
