St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) made the biggest leap in this week’s MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings, moving up nine places to No. 8 following a decisive 30-3 victory over IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.). This marked IMG’s worst loss since a 35-7 defeat to the Panthers in 2019 when Blake Corum was on the team.

Junior quarterback Jae’oyn Williams led St. Frances with a strong first half, building a 17-3 lead by halftime. Williams scored on a rushing touchdown and connected with three-star tight end Damon Hall Jr. for another. The Panthers’ defense dominated the second half, forcing five turnovers and scoring twice. Bryce Deas forced a fumble on a sack, which Darrion Smith returned 71 yards for a touchdown, while junior safety Wayne Henry added a 66-yard interception return for a score.

The win was St. Frances Academy’s fifth consecutive victory and their first over IMG since 2021, dropping IMG Academy to No. 17 after a 12-spot decline.

The CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoff bracket also debuted Sunday, featuring four MaxPreps Top 25 teams: No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), No. 7 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), No. 9 Mission Viejo (Calif.), and No. 23 Centennial (Corona, Calif.). All have byes for the first round.

Mater Dei awaits the winner of Servite (Anaheim, Calif.) vs. Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.), while St. John Bosco will face either Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) or Inglewood (Calif.). Mission Viejo and Centennial are set to meet in the quarterfinals on Nov. 15.

This week’s playoff matchups feature No. 11 Archbishop Spalding (Severn, Md.), No. 13 Boyle County (Danville, Ky.), and No. 20 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah).

Archbishop Spalding, led by Malik Washington, opens its MIAA-A playoffs against Mount St. Joseph (Baltimore, Md.), aiming for a third straight title. Boyle County, with standout Montavin Quisenberry, seeks a fifth straight 4A state title against Perry County Central (Hazard, Ky.). Corner Canyon, fresh off a 56-0 win over Westlake (Saratoga Springs, Utah), will play Weber (Pleasant View, Utah) in the 6A quarterfinals.
