St. Frances Academy Joins MaxPreps Top 25 in Time for High-Stakes Clash with No. 5 IMG Academy

Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) once again asserted its dominance in high school football with a resounding 59-14 victory over St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) on Friday. This win further solidifies Mater Dei’s position as the No. 1 team in the MaxPreps Top 25 rankings and marks the first time St. John Bosco has faced a running clock since Jason Negro became head coach in 2010.

This loss was also the most significant defeat for St. John Bosco since their 49-24 loss to the Monarchs in the 2017 CIF Southern Section Division 1 Championship.

Mater Dei’s senior quarterback, Dash Beierly, put on a stellar performance, completing 20 of 28 passes for 308 yards and four touchdowns, in addition to a 40-yard rushing touchdown. The Monarchs will close their regular season on Friday with a matchup against No. 15 Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.).

St. John Bosco dropped six spots to No. 8 following the loss and will look to rebound in their upcoming game against JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano) on Friday.

New to the MaxPreps Top 25 this week, St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, Md.) landed at No. 17 after a dominant 35-7 victory over Clearwater Central Catholic (Clearwater, Fla.). With four consecutive wins, St. Frances is set for an intense face-off with No. 5 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) on Friday. Their three losses this season were to elite teams, including No. 1 Mater Dei, No. 4 Duncanville (Texas), and No. 15 Orange Lutheran, by a combined total of just 17 points.

Elsewhere, No. 7 North Shore (Houston) recorded its biggest win of the season in a thrilling 27-23 comeback victory over Atascocita (Humble, Texas), thanks to a last-second 5-yard touchdown pass from Kaleb Bailey to Quanell Farrahkan Jr., securing an 8-0 record. Atascocita dropped three spots to No. 19 and is set to face Channelview (Texas) on Friday.

In postseason action, No. 20 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) starts its playoff run this week, hosting Westlake (Saratoga Springs) on Friday. The defending 6A state champions have won their last seven games, the final four without their injured four-star junior quarterback, Helaman Casuga, who was hurt in a 21-14 win over Mountain Ridge (Herriman, Utah) on Sept. 20.
