In one of the wildest finishes of the week, No. 24 Atascocita (Humble, Texas) held off a furious comeback from Summer Creek (Houston) to win 42-39 and improve to 5-0. The Eagles dominated the first half, leading 35-7 at halftime, but the Bulldogs came storming back, scoring 32 unanswered points to take a 39-35 lead with just over three minutes left.
Atascocita responded with a clutch drive, culminating in a third touchdown from four-star Oklahoma commit Tory Blaylock, giving the Eagles a 42-39 lead with only 12 seconds remaining.
Elsewhere, No. 6 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) secured its fifth straight win, defeating No. 19 Venice (Fla.) 21-16. The Ascenders started strong with an 80-yard touchdown pass on a trick play from Eric McFarland to Adonis Moise on the game’s first play. Michigan-bound running back Donovan Johnson extended the lead to 14-7 early in the second quarter, and Ty Hawkins’ 62-yard touchdown pass to Donovan Olugbode pushed the score to 21-7. The defense held Venice to just 16 points, well below their season average of 55.8.
Meanwhile, No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) made history by starting a freshman quarterback, Koa Malau’ulu, who led the Braves to a thrilling 28-24 comeback win over No. 16 Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.). After trailing 10-0 at halftime, Malau’ulu threw four touchdowns in the second half, including a game-winning 22-yard strike to Carson Clark with less than a minute left, improving St. John Bosco to 6-0.
In Alabama, Auburn (Ala.) snapped No. 15 Central’s (Phenix City) 18-game winning streak with a 38-33 road victory, moving Auburn to 6-0 and setting them up for a major jump in the rankings after sitting at No. 70.
Servite (Anaheim, Calif.) took down No. 18 JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) with a 20-7 win, putting the Friars in contention for a spot in the MaxPreps Top 25 for the first time since 2021.
No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) improved to 5-0 with a 40-18 victory over Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) in their Trinity League opener. Oregon commit Jordon Davison rushed for three touchdowns in the win.
