The Hawaii On3 Massey Ratings have released their top 25 rankings for Nov. 5, reflecting the results of the first weekend in November. While the lineup remains consistent with previous lists, several teams have shifted in rank. Here’s the updated look at the strongest Hawaii high school football teams as the state playoffs approach.
The On3 Massey Ratings, originally a recognized system during the BCS era, evaluates teams based on game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory. According to this model, two Hawaiian teams rank in the national top 100.
1. James Campbell
The Sabers remain undefeated with a narrow six-point win over seventh-ranked Kapolei. After trailing 36-14 at halftime, they rallied in the second half, outscoring Kapolei 35-7. Key players included Zayden Alviar-Costa and Rusten Abang-Perez, who combined for 295 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Cal commit Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele also impressed with 32 completions, 473 yards, and six touchdowns. James Campbell will defend their perfect record against second-ranked Kahuku on Nov. 8.
2. Kahuku
The Red Raiders reclaimed their second-place spot with a commanding 35-6 win over Mililani. Matai Fuiava passed for 176 yards, delivering touchdowns to Aiden Manutai and Kea Lerner. On defense, Maximum Fonoimoana contributed three tackles and two sacks. Kahuku faces Campbell on Nov. 8, seeking to even the score after their Oct. 19 loss.
3. Mililani
The Trojans struggled to keep up with Kahuku in their last matchup, with their only score coming from Treston McMillan’s pass to Derek Tsuchiyama. They aim to rebound against Kapolei on Nov. 9.
4. St. Louis
The Crusaders triumphed over Punahou for the third time this season, limiting the Buff ‘n Blue to a mere three points. Quarterback Nainoa Lopes threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns. St. Louis will face Kamehameha on Nov. 8, looking to build on this success.
5. Kamehameha
Despite a recent loss to Punahou, several Warriors had standout performances. Pono Kahaulelio completed a touchdown pass to Nainoa Melchor, and Madden Aquino added two field goals and an extra point. Kamehameha gets another shot at St. Louis on Nov. 8.
6. Punahou
The Buff ‘n Blue wrapped up their season with back-to-back losses to St. Louis, ending with a cumulative 85-17 deficit. Dash Watanabe’s field goal provided Punahou’s only score in their final game, bringing their season to a close with a 3-6 record overall and 1-4 in league play.
7. Kapolei
Kapolei suffered their third straight loss in a tight game against Campbell. However, standout performances included Leysen Rodrigues with 321 passing yards and three touchdowns, Liatama Amisone’s four-touchdown game, and Nikko Smith’s 143 receiving yards. The Hurricanes will look to end their losing streak against Mililani on Nov. 9.
8. Farrington
The Governors ended a five-game losing streak with a victory over Waipahu on Oct. 18, led by Chansen Smith’s four touchdown passes and one rushing score. Farrington now awaits their state tournament fate with a 4-5 record.
9. Konawaena
The Wildcats secured their eighth consecutive win, shutting out Keeau 36-0. It marked their sixth shutout during this streak. Keenan Alani threw for three touchdowns, while Austin Takaki added 100 receiving yards and a touchdown. Defensive standout Elias Malapit contributed two sacks and a fumble recovery.
10. Leilehua
On a seven-game winning streak, the Mules enter the state tournament with an 8-3 record. Bennett Strobel threw two touchdown passes, and Cameron Keeve added a rushing touchdown. Leilehua will face Kailua on Nov. 9, aiming to continue their momentum.
