How to Qualify for the Calgary Stampede

The esteemed Calgary Stampede stands out among rodeos for its prestige. Contestants from around the world vie for a chance to compete at the renowned’s Largest Outdoor Rodeo. Every year, a select group of30 contestants earn the opportunity to showcase their skills in various events including bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, tie roping, barrel, and bull ridingTo secure an invitation to compete at the Calgary Stampede, stringent criteria are in place. For saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, tie roping, and steer events; invitations are extended to the top five riders from the 2023 Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) final standings, top 15 from the 2023 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) World Standings, and top 10 from the 2024 PRCA Current Year Standings. As for bull riding; invitations are offered to the top four riders from the 2023 CPRA final standings, top 15 from the 2023 PRCA World Standings, participants with exemptions, and top six from the 2024 PRCA Current Year Standings.

In barrel racing, a more inclusive approach is taken by allocating six spots to competitors from two separate qualifying events held during the year. Additionally, invitations are extended to the top four riders from the 2023 CPRA final standings, top 15 from the 2023 WPRA World Standings, and top five from the 2024 Current Year Standings.

Recent qualifiers for the prestigious Calgary Stampede include Chelsea Moore and Katelyn Scott who secured their spots at qualifying events held earlier in April and upcoming in June respectively. The competition is fierce with only a few places up for grabs.
